After the phenomenal success of his extensively playlisted and streamed alt-electronica project, Timothy and the Apocalypse, the Australian artist Timothy Poulton has picked up his Fender Jaguar to start the new Shoegaze project, Cutie π.
Joined by producer Tom Stephenson, Cutie π is a project entrenched in deep reverence for the Shoegaze pioneers. The debut single, Just Faking It, takes abstract influence from the originators of dream-pop before relaying it through reprising layers of soft synths, visceral percussive fills and non-lexical vocals that bleed into the kaleidoscopic atmosphere of euphoria.
Cutie π Said:
“Cutie π transpired through my inability to put down my Fender Jaguar. I grew up with a soundtrack provided by My Bloody Valentine, Ride, and Lush, to name a few.
With this project, I transfused my own indie cinematic beats with the signature stylings of the artists who inspired my own creative journey.”
Amelia Vandergast, the Executive Editor at A&R Factory said:
“The reverb-heavy tranquillity of Just Faking It which flows from a Slowdive-ESQUE intro into a transfixing sequence of delay-filtered dreamy guitars swathed in colourful choral distortion and trip-hoppy beats pushed through arrestive progressions is a psych-tinged fever dream of ingenuity.”
